DON'T COUNT YEARS. WATCH WHO ABSORBS THE RISK.

A young team can contain players who accelerate play and take risks alongside someone who repeatedly restores control when those risks fail.

After something goes wrong, watch who simplifies the next action, who takes another risk and who restores the team's rhythm.

That behaviour could simply reflect experience, coaching, tactical responsibility or individual quality.

If the stabilising player is consistently the oldest player, the behavioural and age explanations remain difficult to separate.

Is the useful “spine” of a young team an age structure, or a behavioural one?
