THE OUTLIER DOESN’T HAVE TO BECOME EXTRAORDINARY

A team can outperform its structural position partly because stronger rivals spend unusually long periods outside their own useful conditions.

When an underdog succeeds, examine not only its own stability but the instability of the teams around it.

This may simply be the ordinary effect of injuries, managerial change, rebuilding or variance.

A weakened competitive environment doesn't establish anything about the champion's own behavioural condition.

Can an outlier succeed through relative stability rather than exceptional stability?
