THE FLOOR ISN’T THE CEILING

Some players contribute by maintaining stability: absorbing pressure, restoring rhythm and preventing deterioration rather than producing the most visible attacking moments.

Ask what a player repeatedly prevents from happening, not only what they produce.

“Floor-raising” may simply be another name for reliability, experience or technical security.

In a team sport, it is difficult to attribute an absence of failure to one player without stronger evidence.

Can a player's value partly consist of the bad states the team never enters?
